Louis Fernandez is the owner of My Design Team. He does all the existing plans and helps put together all the construction documents and oversees the company operation. Louis draws on his years of construction experience and using the software to provide clients with a plan they can build from.

Louis apprenticed in the construction business in 1974 while in college. After college, Louis worked for a finish carpentry company here in Houston doing higher end trim and cabinetry.

In 1981 Louis started a remodeling trim and cabinet business along with Katy. The Louis Fernandez Company quickly grew into a full service remodeling company. Taking advantage of computer technology, Louis and Katy used Chief Architect 3D modeling software to draw plans for their projects.

In 2002, Louis became a Chief teacher and consultant helping contractors both local and nationwide use the software more effectively. The Louis Fernandez Company evolved into a full service design business for remodeling contractors. With this new direction in mind, “My Design Team” became the official company name in 2008.

Principal Designer

Katy Fernandez is the primary designer for My Design Team, specializing in kitchen and bath design. Her focus is on creating spaces that reflect the client’s aesthetics while being both functional and sensible. Katy believes that good design makes life happier for everyone who uses a kitchen, and that makes for a happier home. With over 25 years of experience in both design and building, Katy’s practical knowledge of construction gives her an edge in designing remodeling projects that are both beautiful and buildable.

Katy holds a BA from the University of St. Thomas and studied interior design at the U of H Sundry School. She is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). She began her career as a cabinet maker and designer, working in the field and shop with her husband Louis.

Discovering Chief Architect’s 3D design software, Katy switched from hand drawing to computer modeling. She and Louis taught program training workshops for Chief Architect in the US and with Delta Design in Canada. Houston area remodelers attending software training often requested design assistance for their projects, so Katy began working collaboratively with the remodelers and their clients.

Katy’s designs have been featured on the cover and inside pages of the Houston Remodeler’s Guide. A contemporary kitchen designed by Katy for Premier Remodeling and Construction, L.P. won a Prism Award in 2007.

Design Assistant

Sarah Killingsworth is a current fourth-year architecture student and student leader at the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture. This marks her second summer working for My Design Team. Her work for the office includes shadowing on client consultations and site visits, editing on plans and document sets, and being a cheerful voice on the phone. She also contributes graphic design work and updates web content and social media for My Design Team.
